[shastaFORWARD>>]
across the golden state, counties have begun to participate in california’s regional blueprint planning program. in an effort to improve regional coordination and the overall effectiveness of future planning decisions, the shasta county regional transportation planning agency launched its own regional blueprint project, entitled shastaFORWARD>>.
fundamentally, shastaFORWARD>> is a tool for enhanced decision-making, aimed to help local and regional policy-makers evaluate the long-term impacts of growth related decision-making in shasta county. this new project will allow for more effective planning solutions and lead to a more efficient use of shasta county resources.
shasta county is predicted to double in population by the year 2050, forever changing its form, function, and livability. like individuals, communities are the product of choices multiplied by time. by utilizing the latest modeling technology, shasta county will be able to visualize what the future will look like given existing and alternative policies and trends.
shastaFORWARD>> will provide the tools, information, and forum for citizens in the shasta county region to imagine and attain their vision of the future through a more accessible, approachable, and meaningful planning process. the formation and ongoing success of the regional blueprint planning program is an acknowledgement that individual issues such as relationships between land-use, transportation, the environment, air quality, the economy, and other components, cannot be addressed or resolved in a vacuum. one cannot expect to fully address a singular issue without consideration of its interpedently on other natural, man-made, and/or political features of the landscape.
the purpose and intent of shastaFORWARD>> is to look into the future and answer a very simple question: if shasta county continues to plan and grow as they are now, will shasta county continue to enjoy the same benefits and quality of life years into the future?
